Snow is Pretty

All these pictures were taken indoors.  The first two were taken from inside the 69 bus.

Finally! Good Turkey Pictures

Everybody except me has been getting great pictures of the Harvard Square turkey.  I've kept my camera handy for days and checked out favorite turkey haunts on my breaks.  Today, the turkey reappeared at the tiny garden outside the Inn at Harvard.  Gaze upon its magnificence!  (The turkey's; not the Inn's.)

Spring Update, or This Bud's for you

Here's a picture of the robin's nest in the Pusey Pit tree from above.  You can see the ribbons, at least.

Here's some flowering bushes in back of Wadsworth House.  I don't know what they are.

The flowers on these trees have already fallen off.

Harvard Yard is not too crowded.

My Only Contribution

My only contribution to the mass of Marathon Bombing photos is this snap of Norfolk St. today (Saturday) taken as I walked to work.  As you can see, the Somerville police left some of their barricades.  The barricades were still there when I came home.

Yesterday I stayed at home like a rule-abiding citizen.   I noticed from TV coverage that some people did come out and talk to the media people at Norfolk St.

My neighbor was out of milk, so she called up Albert who lives above his store, Albert's Market, across the street.  While Albert was taking care of her, a friend from church came in to buy lottery tickets.

Then when they lifted the shelter-at-home-order you could hear millions of dogs barking as they finally got their walks.

Harvard Square has a New Cup

I just noticed this cup above the Church St. Dunkin Donuts today.  This must be their answer to the Government Center teapot.

The Great Outdoors

This afternoon Rosemary and I checked out the Oktoberfest in Harvard Square.  As usual, there were no beer-bearing Mädchens, just the usual outdoor-fair paraphernalia.

Lunch in Harvard Square

Eating out on a work day requires choosing a place that is both close and quick. Sometimes I or my lunchmate is on the ref desk right before or right after our precious lunch hour.

Naturally we get tired of the same old places.  But now we have a new option: Viva Cafe!

They don't have a web site, but they do have cheap food quickly prepared.  It's a Moroccan place at 1105 Mass. Ave. between Zoe's and New Asia (which appears to have closed).  I had a beef & lamb shawarma wrap ($5.95) which was tasty and large (though heavy on the lettice).  My buddy Diane had the chicken shawarma wrap ($5.50).  There are plenty of vegetarian options, for instance a falafel wrap ($4.50), roast vegetables & feta cheese wrap ($5.50), and hummus & babaghanoush wrap ($4.95).
Of course, rents in Harvard Square are high, so these prices may not last.

Update:  Later I had the Fez Chicken Wrap, which was quite good.

Another Swell Sunday Breakfast at the Friendly Toast

Sue and a full-size Barbie waiting for a table.  Sue has brought a gift for Dave.  What could it be?

It's a spider made of pumpernickel bread!

We get a table in a back corner.

Ready to eat.
After the meal.

Assignment Porter Square

An assignment for an art class (Drawing into Painting) I'm taking required that I find and buy several interesting objects in Porter Square. I took some photos of my excursion then tarted them up with Poster Edges, my new favorite Photoshop effect. I was impressed by the mall at the Porter Square T stop; virtually no litter, plenty of wheelchair ramps, and solar panels on the roof. The shopping mall is generally considered an icon of degenerate Western running-dog capitalism, but this one shone with virtue.

I'd Like to Live Here

Yesterday I took my camera to Franklin St., which is parallel to Mass Ave. on the way to Central Square. That area is a jungle of shade trees and climbing ivy. I want to live there.

Many of the houses have interesting features.

This house has a wonderful fence. You get tantalizing glimpes of the house and yard.

Same fence. They give us people on the outside plenty to look at.
A closeup. Can you see that the stone relief depicts scenes from the Bible?

A small window gives another peek inside.

I like color--loud color, even. I would definitely feel comfortable in this neighborhood.
