My mother gave me this family thing. She didn't know what it's for. It looks a bit shallow for a candlestick--and why is there a little hole in the bowl? The handle thing used to be longer.

Can anybody give me any information? I'd be so grateful.

Tiller's Murder

Naturally I was disgusted by the murder of Dr. Tiller, though I reminded myself that most anti-abortion people did not support violent overthrow of pro-abortion people like me. Then it occurred to me that I had never heard of some extremist or mentally unbalanced pro-abortion person murdering or maiming a Pro-Life leader or an abortion clinic protester. Usually when you have two large groups at odds over an emotionally charged issue, and some on one side kill or maim some on the other side, that sparks revenge violence. There must be some extremist and mentally unbalanced people who believe in abortion, but, as far as I know, they haven't taken revenge for abortion doctors' murders. How about that?

Mystery Parade: Mystery Solved

I went out with my camera on Sunday Morning and ran right into this parade. Later I looked on the web to see what it was about, but I couldn't find it. A Portugal Parade is scheduled for June 6, but this was May 31. I didn't see any signs about any saints days being celebrated. Another East Cambridge Mystery!

This is Where I Live

This sign is an East Cambridge landmark, though nowadays the chickens are slaughtered out of town and brought in dead. My building is next door.

Here's the view from my patio of my neighbors who live above the dead chicken place. I always wonder if it smells of chicken.

Here's the back of my building. Our rubber roof was due for replacement; and the new roof will be superior in every way. The inset shows the yellow flags warning folks to keep off the roof.

TV Executives Take Note

Remember 1900 House and Frontier House and all the other reality shows in which people learned how crappy it is to live in the past? When is some network going to make Future House, in which volunteers learn what it would be like to have robots do all the housework and commute to the job in a hovercraft? I'd Like to Live Here

Yesterday I took my camera to Franklin St., which is parallel to Mass Ave. on the way to Central Square. That area is a jungle of shade trees and climbing ivy. I want to live there.

Many of the houses have interesting features.

This house has a wonderful fence. You get tantalizing glimpes of the house and yard.

Same fence. They give us people on the outside plenty to look at.
A closeup. Can you see that the stone relief depicts scenes from the Bible?

A small window gives another peek inside.

I like color--loud color, even. I would definitely feel comfortable in this neighborhood.

Why Doesn't This Ever Happen to Me?

A Web Mystery

Ten minutes after my last post, I began getting hits from all over the world: 3 from the U.S., 2 from Saudi Arabia, 2 from the United Kingdom, 2 from Brazil, 2 from South Africa, 1 from Thailand, 1 from Germany, 1 from Switzerland, 1 from Portugal, and 1 from Mexico. The hits dropped off in about 3 minutes. What happened?
The Statcounter records list a "referring URL," but the flurry of hits had these long URLS that, if clicked, led to an error message. The referring URLs all started with "www.blogger.com/navbar....." Could it be that my blog was the designated "next blog" when people clicked the link of the same name?

Exams Haven't Ended..

...and police are in evidence after a recent on-campus shooting, but that doesn't stop this student from enjoying the sun.
