The Pain! The Pain!

It looks like I have trigeminal neuralgia. That seems the most logical explanation for a bout of right-side-of-the-face pain.

It had been disguising itself as dental pain for many months. Then one evening it attacked! Ibuprophen alone could not win against this rogue nerve.

So my doc gave me some Tylenol laced with codeine. Now I know why I so enjoyed having a cold when I was a kid: it wasn't the missing of school that so delighted me; it was the codeine.

Feeling Young?

For those of you who still feel young, I suggest checking out this site, which describes the mindset of the incoming class of college freshmen.

If that doesn't work, check out this site, and see if you remember wearing any of these outfits.

Then, if that doesn't work, check out this site, and see if you ever thought your future would turn out this way.

How Long Will I Last?

Tonight was the first night of my Intro to animation with Maya class. Some time in the second hour I got totally lost. Then in the lab following class I got partially caught up.
Our teacher says we must spend 10-15 hours per week on the classwork to get anything useful out of the course. I don't know if I can put in that much, but, (owing to my many years of Harvard service) the class is free for me, so if I have to drop, it's no skin off my wallet.

A New TV

Here Criswell predicts on my new TV. The old one still works, but nobody wants a 15-year-old set.

A Lovely Scent

The other day ( a hot day) Julie, Sue, and I noticed that the outdoors part of the Harvard campus smelled lovely. Sue said that they had sprayed with clove oil to repel mosquitoes. (Owing to an abnormally wet summer, the local mosquitoes have increased to plague-like proportions.) How often does it happen that something as pleasant as clove oil repels your blood enemies?

You Can Eat Squash Blossoms

According to my friend Julie, Squash blossoms can be stuffed and fried. So if I ever get stuck at work, I suppose I could live off my window ledge harvest.

Home Ownership

A few days ago I noticed that my bathroom sink stopper had broken free from the pin that held it to the thing that makes it go up and down. Naturally I called our building super.
Well, he called me at work to report that the whole pipe underneath the sink had rotted to an alarming degree. So what looked like a small problem would actually cost about $500.
This is my 12th year as a condo-owner, so I'm hardened to to home-repair prices, but I thought it was a great opportunity to use some of my clip art from the 1920s and 30s.

Jammin'

I'm on my third bread machine, and finally I tried out the jam setting. Last night I made kiwi, strawberry, pineapple jam. Your local grocery store has fruit pectin that works with low or no sugar, if you like jam that is not too sweet. I tried making blueberry jam without pectin, and it was more like sauce.

Office Windowsill Gardening

Your office windsill needn't be limited to a row of pots.

Consider extending your plants' reach with drinking straws from the staff room, as illustrated on the right. Also note that a folder-holder can be used to create a lovely arbor.

Urban Turkey Shoot

If you like these turkeys, check out my Picasa album full of stills. The first time I saw these turkeys (on Longwood near the Carl Schapiro Building) I had no camera on me. So I took a special trip to find and shoot these turkeys.

As an extra-free-bonus, take a look at this young hawk viewed at the west side of Lamont.

The Friendly Toast in Cambridge..a Great Breakfast Place!

The Friendly Toast is a diner that invests a lot in 50s-theme decor, is a great breakfast place. Mary and I had the French Toast. On the weekends it's open 24 hours; not that I have the kind of schedule that would make this appealing. By the way, I remember Mr. Esso, but I never knew their was a Mrs. Esso.
